This Is England

Written and directed by Shaun Meadows this is an at least semi autobiographical account of being a 12 year old boy in the northern town in England in the summer of 1983.
Against a background of Thatcher, ska music, the Falklands War and rising unemployment, a boy finds support and friendship and everything is on the up until the ugliness of British racism rears its head and everything turns psychotic.
This is a very very believable account of a boy looking for something he can't define.
The whole reminds me of how England was then.
It is extremely real.
It is extremely depressing. At least for me.
It contains everything I wanted to leave.
At the end it contains some violence. It is ugly. As it should be.
I think this is an extremely good film.
It has some very nasty truths about Britain.
It is an uncomfortable film.
It is not 4 Weddings And A Funeral although there are moments when you will laugh.
Highly recommended.
