"Lake Placid" 1999: Brief Review

204.196.180.229

Recently went to the discount theater and viewed the 1999 release,
"Lake Placid". I'd read nothing but derogatory things about this film,
but decided to view it anyway. Heck, it only set me back 50 cents!
It's a reptilian copy of "Jaws", featuring a massive 30 ft Asian crocodile
who migrated to the peaceful lake in Maine, USA. The two main characters
are played by Bill Pullman as a Fish&Game Commmission officer and Bridget
Fonda (Peter's daughter) as a paleontologist. I was very impressed with
her performance and hope to see more good things from her in the future.
But the real star is the crocodile - he is a giant, realistic-looking creation of Stan Winston. And boy is he impressive throughout the movie;
however, I won't give away any of the good parts, as you need to see those
for yourself.
Their is humor in this film, amply provided by Betty White, a widow who
lives beside the lake and has a quirky relationship with the big reptile.
"Lake Placid" is a fun, entertaining and sometimes scary film; should be
out on video in the near future. (Animal activists will love the ending
of this movie.) ** out of **** - AH
