"Day of the Triffids"

Does anyone remember "The Day of the Triffids"? It's a British film from the 1960's that often showed up on late night tv before cable. In my opinion a good, tight sci-fi gem.

According to Amazon there is a dvd but it is supposed to be of truly awful quality. Has anyone seen it? Is it as bad as the Amazon posters say?
