Free popcorn Tuesday, had several hours to burn.... yup, I saw 007,

again.
It did occur to me the first viewing that the super-kinetic editing, far too fast for the eye to absorb detail, was purposeful to coax viewers into a second viewing.
SPOILERS galore!!!!!!!!!!!!
The opening scene proved more understandable, the editing was very expert with perfect continuity, though far too rapid.
I still couldn't see if M was shot in the scene where the mole opens fire. She appeared, both times I saw it, to fall rapidly to the ground after the shots were fired but later she showed no "wear."
I also noticed, again, M's not-too-veiled threat to render the suspect for torture if he proved reticent. I have a problem with that. Also, the reference to Brazil as some sort of anti-Western Marxist rogue state, linking it with Venezuela, was a flat-out misrepresentation. For God's sake, have writers not even basic current events' knowledge (did Sarah co-write this mess?).
It now is plain that Craig is a formidable acting talent but it also is true he woefully is underused: he's very close to Terminator with a different accent and better hair.
I very much appreciate the absence of cutesie remarks after 007 kills a man and also the removal of the tricky toys and massive armies decimating each other at the ending.
I don't know why action directors just don't s l o w things down, considerably. It's such a waste to hire all the best talent in the world and then not give five seconds of continuity in which a viewer can appreciate the driving, or any stunt.
The showdown with the rogue agent that terminated in the scaffolding and ropes was far too complex, and jump-cut, fully to appreciate.
Similarly, that scene, intermixed with the horse race, and the correlating mix of the opera and the escape from the theater, were a mess.
This seems to be a pattern: a lack of trust in an action sequence to hold its own through careful direction and masterful, original planning. Faster, more complex, and more brutal is okay for once but what do you do for an encore? This film, like "Dark Shadow," proves that more is too much.
