Frost/Nixon

An extraordinary film letting the career arcs of Richard Nixon and talk show presenter David Frost (Peter Cook once said he had "risen without trace") play out alongside their pivotal series of interviews.
It isn't perfect; Frost's girlfriend seems their entirely to let Nixon make an infamous comment and the researchers on each side seem a little like flotsam at times, but there is a core to this film that holds the attention.
Nixon faces himself beyond or perhaps inside the professional, the political Don that he was and Frost rediscovers the edge that empowered him before he came to epitomise the shiny new shallowness of the celebrity age.
A film about the power of the TV image, the close up and a precursor for what we now have as news and entertainment.
Perhaps the dawn of the present.
