Two young Rio favela (those hill-hugging Brazilian slums) boys without fathers become fast friends and, through all the drugs and violence surrounding them, try to survive the pressures to join the gangs.
This gritty--- and sometimes a tad over-emotional--- picture of what are typical lives for millions of cariocas (Rio residents) won every tv award in Brazil and has widely been praised world-wide.
The young actors, both amateurs hailing from the very slum where the series is shot, are amazing. The advantage of the tv medium becomes apparent as we see the boys grow into young men in real time.
If you appreciate, "400 Blows," you cannot miss this.
