Spent the Weekend with Ingrid Bergman

Watched just a couple of her masterpieces, Notorious and Gaslight. I've written before about Hitchcock's famous Notorious. If you haven't seen it yet you're a fool. Gaslight was a real treat. I knew nothing about the movie (guess that makes me a fool) and it was quite enjoyable. The acting, as it is so often on older movies, was superb and subtle. Something really missing nowadays. Ingrid actually spent many days studying women in a mental institute preparing for this one. Again, Gaslight was a real treat.

An interesting side note, Gaslight was Angela Lansbury's first movie. She was seventeen as the movie started production! She did a fine job with her limited role and seemed much older than seventeen. Lansbury said this movie was the opportunity of a lifetime and gave her her career.

A funny story, Lansbury was shooting one day and agreed to have lunch with a co-star. Lansbury finished her morning shooting early and told her co-actor to have lunch early with her. They had lunch then went back to the set only to learn that Lansbury's co-actor was missing for her morning shoot. The director chewed Lansbury out in front of the entire crew. Lnasbury said never, ever in her entire life did she ever tell an actor to leave the set since then unless personally clearing it with the director.

We'll have to agree to disagree about global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along
