"The Hurt Locker:" a very good war flick in the

best Hollywood tradition. Good entertainment, somewhat better than a popcorn film.
Nothing really new here, except the Iraq location. This surely is the first widely released war film by a female director.
SPOILER:
In the critical point of the film, the conversation in the humvee between Sanford and James, the writing and acting, especially of Renner, was incredibly weak. In another scene, the guy filming the defusing wouldn't have been allowed to keep a camera pointed for even a split-second without getting blown away. Lastly, the sharp-shooter scene in the desert had the greatest directorial and story discontinuity I've seen in years: why did the enemy sharpshooter quit firing? He had already blasted two guys in exactly the same spot. The sun also highlighted Sanford and his spotter. That scene was just ridiculous--- but it was great up through Fiennes shooting.
