A Palestinian and an Israeli team up for a magnificent film, "Ajami."

Were I the Academy, this would have won the Best Oscar, or at least tied with, "The White Ribbon."
A young boy narrates this complex story of interweaving narratives that begin with a killing in a bar. This leads to revenge, but the wrong young man is killed. The intended victim, and his family, thus are alerted that they still are hunted: honor demands that the entire family, if they cannot pay damages, are to be hunted.
Very well acted (by mostly amateurs, all of whom are exceptionally good, especially the actors portraying Omar and Nasri), well-scripted, and skillfully directed: the themes of retribution, cultural and religious tensions, and family honor and loyalty comprise the dramatic fabric.
I don't know why this film hasn't received more attention. Don't be put off by the Middle-Eastern flavor: it isn't preaching politics, at all. First and foremost, it's a riveting crime film that elevates the medium.
