I tried the Bowflex at home for a couple of years and had little to show for it. I am not sure why but I never liked the feel of the rods and the handles were awfully cheap and uncomfortable. I purchased a Hoist V2 home gym that occupies about the same amount of space as the Bowflex, plus a bench with dumbbells, and I am stronger (at age 54) than I have ever been.
But opinions are mixed. Try the John Stone Fitness forum for pretty good objective advice
