I haven't watched a single episode of BE until this week when I got the Blu-ray set. It was an impressive production. The sets, props and outfits are vintage 1920s and the cinematography is total eye candy. Every frame looks amazing. Not surprising with Scorsese as an executive producer and director of the first episode and maybe others. Some of the acting I can live without and the writing is not as strong as other shows like Mad Men, but for me the main draw is Buscemi as Nucky Thompson. He's a more evolved gangster, never getting his hands dirty or losing his temper in violence. I also really like Kelly Macdonald, who evolved over the season into Nucky's girlfriend. The tie-ins into New York and Chicago gangster lore are also interesting. But again, the main draw are the production values, where every frame looks like a work of art. It's great to feast your eyes on this in high def and the blu-ray set is going for a good price (click below).
