This time it happens in the Netherlands. A Polish woman has been tricked into the sex trade and escapes one night running wildly into the night. The next morning she collapses in the big Dutchman's field where he retrieves her and they begin a very tenuous relationship that is punctuated by the pimp squad looking for her in the countryside.
This man+woman plot seems to be a favorite in Europa and the Dutch take a swing at this time. The difference is the rather emotionally void Dutchman warming up to the desperate Pole at a glacial pace. The film puts the simple Dutch life under a microscope in such a way the mundane is no longer boring.
This isn't for everyone but if you like solid performances and a studious look at how others make this work--it works.
