"Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit." I have to say it ...

Yuck. What a piece of crap. Based on a character written up by Tom Clancy; this is the latest of the Ryan stories. Chris Pine seems to have found a niche in playing established heroes in their younger days. Here he plays an early Ryan recruited fresh out of college; backing up a previous movie where he played a young Captain Kirk fresh out of Starfleet Academy.

Half of the flick built up intrigue and whodunnit type spy story line, then flips Pine from super brilliant analyst into somebody from the Avengers. The last half looked like Stan Lee wrote it. Completely full of crap. Kevin Costner, Ryan's recruiter, plays an intriguing, mysterious all-knowing spy guy in the first half, then becomes a total dumbass, following Pine around and doing what Pine says, all the time with a look of what-the-hell-is-happening on his face.

Ryan's nurse/girlfriend/fiance/future spouse in later times (previous movies) is played by Keira Knightley, who -- IMO -- can't act worth squat; always trying to hide all those teeth in a mouth that's too small to hold them. She plays a ditz. Very unbecoming to other women who played that role with dignity in prior films; Anne Archer comes to mind.

Save your money and popcorn. This one sucks.
