BRD is an accepted abbreviation too, but no need to use the extra letter (R) since in "standard" abbreviation form it's normal to not include the first letter of the second part of a hyphenated word. "ray" isn't capitalized either in the official spelling, which is another hint why BD is fine. [This is different than acronyms, which have no rules, especially in the military.]
