Gosh. Where to begin? 2001 at #6? Good gawd. They spaced-out on that one (couldn't resist). The Man with a Movie Camera is not so much a film with a plot as a montage of images, beautiful as they are (and I've had the movie in my collection for a long time - the music is very interesting and who better to bring us incredible film music than the Russians?) took a spot that The 'Third Man' could have occupied. At least Bergman (who has at least two other films that merit inclusion over some of the old art house bores chosen), Kurosawa and Yasujiro received inclusion. Not knocking 400 Blows which belongs for sure, but pray tell - what is 'The Wages of Fear', chopped liver? Chaplin hanging on by a thread at the bottom of the bottom. Geez. So. No risky picks for rattle the cages controversy like a Fassbinder - huh? Perhaps it was all for fun, teasing their readers, stirring the pot - they had their Play Time (one of #42) - no?

More expensive doesn't necessarily mean better.
