'Despite The Falling Snow': Well-worn romantic spy story . . .

Rebecca Ferguson plays twin roles as Katya the young Russian spying for America in the late '50's and her young niece who keeps close touch with Katya's aging husband (Dance) in the early '90's. Sam Reid plays Katya's husband and rising bureaucratic star whom she befriends, spies upon, and falls in love with. Reid is a "true believer" which proves problematic when Katya begins to feels the heat. She advises him to go on his diplomatic mission to the UN and to defect with the idea she will follow. It never happens.

This is pretty much a chick flick but gives an outsider a lick of the '50's Soviet Experience. You know, everybody's family has had someone shot or hanged and no one was to be trusted.

This wasn't a compelling film but more of an interesting period piece with some modern kinks thrown in during the early '90's era. A few twists and turns but no edge of the seat business.

Seek it out on cable.
