HBO's Westworld...Anybody? NO spoilers...

Well...HBO has opened up pocket book again. (not GoT $$$, but close)

The first 4 episodes plotted along raising and nurturing plot lines and character development...episodes 5-7 grew legs and put the hooks in me.

This is a continuation of the Michael Crichton 1973 movie...to the point, they gave you a nugget of an out of focus Yul Brynner, ("robot" now referred as "Hosts"), sitting in chair in the basement...nice

Westworld's longevity is attributed to advances in technology, making the hosts more human...AND the need for the mega wealthy to exercise their inner demons, fantasies or take part in wild west adventures...kind of...with multiple multiple storylines running concurrently...pick your poison as a guest

With an Ex Machina type feel on much larger scale, it is a Ghost in the Machine tale...AI being the center piece. The guests are given card blanche to do to the hosts pretty much anything...damaged hosts are brought back for repairs nightly or character reassignment, (reprogramed into a different character), or just a check under the hood and a memory wipe)...Hosts are ALWAYS nude in the repair shop, but there is nothing sexual about it...yes it includes men and women equally nude...

Hosts respond to voice commands at any moment and become robots not in character...interesting scenes...some of the older generation hosts are having memories of past characters that is making them question their given realities...which is causing hosts not sticking to script or storylines...there is the rub...

Very well cast and written. This is an extremely large cast, but here are a few of the main characters...so far

Evan Rachel Wood-Dolores Abernathy...host, plays sweet and innocent, but has great depth...nice job

Thandie Newton-Maeve Millay...one of my favorite hosts, who is going through extreme changes...great job

Jeffrey Wright-Bernard Lowe...Chief programmer and the moral center of what they are actually doing...great job, reserved with great depth..

James Marsden-Teddy Flood...Host that has been reassigned a couple of times...never really liked him that much as an actor, but is impressing me with his range in this role...great job

Ed Harris-Man in Black...bored Billionaire that is basically living in Westworld...knowing Westworld so well and all the rules...he glides through this environment always having the upper hand, but is currently searching out the flaws, nooks and crannies...ultimate truths of this environment...Ed Harris NAILS this role...complete scene stealer...

Anthony Hopkins-Dr. Robert Ford...one of the creators of Westworld...the Omni-present, benevolent God of this world...great hidden agenda, will not show his cards to anyone, because they would not understand his genius...I am really hot and cold on Hopkins...I feel he gets caught "acting" too much...it is a cliché character...but has improved these last few episodes...

Arnold-co-creator with Dr. Ford...supposedly dead, but is mentioned in every episode...other than a photo never appears, but still seems to have influence over some of the hosts...interesting piece of the puzzle...

Sidse Babett Knudsen-Theresa Cullen...head of operations in Westworld and answering to the "Board"...corporate stereotype...but nice job..

Jimmi Simpson-William...he is a guest that is discovering who he really is...and what he is capable of...as type cast usually as sleazy character...he is the moral center of guests...he is killing this doing a great job...

Creators: Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan are married. Both have very impressive track records writing and producing...they have woven a very intricate story with really good character arch's and escalating pace to great effect...very well done overall...very solid 4.33 stars out of 5.

Make it through the first 4 episodes and it starts to really take-off after that...

One of my favorite nuances of this series is the player piano at the saloon/brothel...first scene on this set in the first episode...the player piano is playing Soundgarden's Black-hole Sun...this player piano set's tone allot playing non-period music on a period correct instrument...very nice touch

I would like to know if any of you are watching this and what you think, without spoilers...please for the rest of the inmates who may not of seen it but might want to.

thanks
Mark
