There have been some studies that many people are so depressed by their day to day lives that these films fill the wish fulfillment fantasy of some Heroe coming in to save them. This for many is highly appealing.

People want some savior because their life sucks. And while the savior is a fallacy - it gives them an immediate dopamine rush. Their problems get assuaged by rooting against the bad guy and the simplistic black and white good versus evil stories - and they carry that into their daily life.

That said I highly enjoyed Deadpool and Deadpool 2 probably because it makes fun of these movies and itself and they're both damn fun. And to me that's the point of going to these kinds of movies - they're supposed to be FUN.

And in almost all cases they aren't. Guardians tried but meh - and the DC films are generally a slog.

Wonder Woman - well 2 hours watching Gal Gadot is not too bad - not too bad at all.

But Black Panther - yawn.

But where is the fun - think back to the original 2 Superman films - they were funny. They had tongue firmly in cheek. The audience went along for the ride and for the most part enjoyed them as kids entertainment - but the new ones - dreary.

Except Deadpool. Granted they may be too raunchy and too violent for some but at least they make the effort to entertain.
