This unit is very good on video with minor motion artifacts at times, almost unnoticeable. Really, it's a bargain for DVDs. Audio on DVDs sounds the same as my other player. As for standard CDs, it doesn't work well as a transport in my system (using the digital out - coax or optical). It's difficult to quantify but it just seems to lack the ease and naturalness of my other unit (in this case, a Sony DVD 7000). I also notice minute clicks every so often and clicks when starting/stopping and pausing of a CD; to me, this is very bothersome.
I haven't tried it as a CD player.
