Never had THIS problem before

Rented Spy Game DVD last night - decent flic but having watched at least 150 DVD's in the past 1 1/2 years this is the first time I had this particular problem: the closed caption sub-titles (not just dialogue but descriptions of sounds taking place in the movie)kept appearing at random throughout the movie. They weren't there all the time but for at least 1/2 the movie if not more. Quite bizarre and certainly a distraction. I tried a couple of times to reset in the setup menu but nothing seemed to work. There was a reference in the setup to Closed Caption for the Hearing Impaired with the only option being "English". There was no option for "None". I did have the Sub Titles option set to "None". Anyone else have this problem with this or other DVD's? Any thoughts as to why this happened? Thanks.
