Re: DVD Player for a Mitsubishi WS55909 Integrated HDTV

I would look into the Kenwood DV-5700 as one option -- it is a 5 disc changer, instead of the 300disc changer. DVD-Audio + Faroudja Deinterlacing + No chroma bug make for a formidable player at its price point. Basic bass management (120Hz crossover frequency for small speakers).

The Denon DV-3800 is brand new to market, so no results are in. It will use the latest Silicon Images Si504 chipset for deinterlacing, which is very good. Reported to have a mold case of chroma bug, but no one knows for sure. Has bass management and time alignment for DVD-A and utilizes very good Burr-Brown DACs for audio.

The Denon DV-4800 is a 5 disc changer with Genesis deinterlacing. I forget whos MPEG decoder is on there. This player has basic bass augmentation -- it leaves small speakers full range but siphons off bass below 120Hz. This has the side effect of doubling output from 120Hz down to the -3dB point of the speaker. Uses Burr-Brown DACs (not sure of the specific DACs in use).

The Pioneer Elite DV-F07 would not be one I'd recommend between Chroma Bug and only decent interlacing. If you look at the best DVD solutions, they are using either Faroudja or Silicon Images deinterlacing, this uses neither.

The Sony DVP-S9000ES is another solid choice. It's about at the end of its model life as a new player, with Multi-channel SACD is slated to take its place in the ES line later this year. SACD instead of DVD-A -- and the SACD sounds darn good.... Video quality was very good, with mild chroma bug, but only average deinterlacing due to utilization of the Genesis deinterlacing solution.

Regards,
