Re: return to vinyl, help

Hi,

I recommend you take it in steps. I think the Grado recommendation is an excellent one. Blue or Black. You will find the sound very pleasing, but give it 20-30 hours to break in.

If you find you really like lps, and have the time to care for them, then start hanging out at the Vinyl Asylum board, the folks there are incredibly knowledgable and helpful. They will help you out if you decide to upgrade.

One last comment, over the years lp cleaning methods have changed quite a bit. You may have the Discwasher system that many of us had years ago. This system has been shown to do more harm than good. I would advise when you get the cartridge you also order a carbon fiber record brush, one with two sides: one for light cleaning, and one for dirty records. You will be much happier with your return to vinyl if you keep your records clean and handle them properly. Again, lots of advice on that in the Vinyl Asylum.

Good luck! Have fun!

Dave

PS One last tip, when you mount the new cartridge, leave the stylus protector in place until it's fully mounted.
