that as far as video goes, the Denon IS a Panasonic. In some ways the 1600 video is better than that of the RP91, glitch-wise, but often the RP91 can look better. The RP91 does have a coaxial output, so that might affect his decision re an external DAC for music. I can see what a tough decision he has, but these days I consider DVDP's as disposable items (unfortunately, it's the way even the best of them are built, very little consideration for longevity, do they know something we don't?), so I'd buy the cheaper one.
