Aspect Ratios

On our BARCO projector I can format 8 different aspect ratios (it has 32 memory banks for this).

We look a lot at foreign movies broadcast on SBS here and many of them are 16:9 with subtitles overlapping and underneath so a full 16:9 screen is not possible with them.

As well as standard 4:3 I have devised a ratio about half way between 4:3 & 16:9. it chops a bit off the top and bottom but I prefer this to 4:3 for most pics. Some quality is lost but it is generally acceptable to very good.

So, to answer your question, I have no real gripes as I can select the aspect ratio which best suits the material.

My gripe is about DVDs, each with their own cute little menus and set up demands. It is a pity they cannot standardise and make them so DD 5.1 is the automatic audio choice although I suppose this would irritate those who only have 2CH.
