I think consumer VCRs are largely a disposible item, nowadays. Even the JVC SVHS models are build rather cheaply, IMO. Sony makes a model like "V51" or "v52" for about a $100/street that has 60 second rewind. That is kind of nice. Also the tuner isn't too bad.

I think JVC, Marantz, and Mitsubishi make some nicer models in the $500+ category. But that's kind of expensive for the VCR, IMHO.
