Some help for a newbie

Hi guys...
I am very very new to the audio reciever/ surround sound theater world. I am looking for a reciever and a set a speakers to set up in my room (about 12.5 ft. X 10 ft) It's not that big of a room. The catch is that I am on a budget. I am looking at a JBL SCS-135SI speaker package($300) and a Pionner VSX-D811S($340). What are your opinions about this setup? If I can do better within this budget range.. that would be great. I would really appreciate any info you guys can give me on this.
