Re: Advice needed for HT surround

If you listen to plenty of music I`d say you should buy the best integrated stereo amp designed to play music; I`m guessing that your reluctance to buy amplification with a tuner built in means you feel that having such circuitry might compromise ultimate sound quality?

If you were to get yourself a Yamaha DSP-E800 DD/DTS Processor (no Tuner); this amplifies just the centre and two rear channels (connection for sub if you want), leaving your stereo amplification to whatever dedicated music amplification you wish.

I actually use a valve pre-amp and valve monoblocs for stereo - the processor is only in circuit during movies or DVD-A playback.
One of the benefits of this approach is that you can continue to upgrade your stereo amplification whilst still retaining your HT playback.

Price for the Yamaha was about £300 in the UK, discounted to £240 from a `stack `em high` outlet.

Best Regards,
Chris Redmond.
