For $1K or less: ACI Titan, used Velodyne, REL or SVS
For around $500-750: Hsu
For $400 or less: Adire Rava, Dayton Titanic Kit
For about $900 delivered, two Ravas would probably kick major boo-TAY. Go on the Home Theater Forum, where there's a thread dedicated to this inexpensive yet highly regarded (and, in my opinion, very handsome) subwoofer.
