Any GOOD way to zap audio/video through house?

I have a digital cable signal in the basement, and want to transmit it wireless upstairs. I purchased a transmitter/receiver set, but the transmission quality is VERY BAD if anything gets in line-of-site between the trasmitter and receiver. Makes the purchase sort of pointless.

Any tips on how to get the audio/video signal from downstairs to up without wires without significant distortion? Any good products out there to accomplish this?
