Don't know your set, but...

it is quite common for many sets with limited inputs to have the S-video input override the (composite) video input. IOW, you can't use both video inputs with *active* signals...you could try using both inputs, but with only one piece of gear powered on at a time. There should be adequate isolation there that the "dead" device won't be any problem. But not a good thing if both devices get powered on, and thus their warning. A device in standby power mode shouldn't count as "turned on" at its video outputs, so maybe give it a try.

I have an older TV with one set of S/comp inputs, and it lives with an S DVDP and a comp VCR connected simultaneously. The even older VCR doesn't have S out.
