Re: rp-82 vs rp-91 vs denon 1600

I have done some recent research on these but have not taken time to watch for myself. None have chroma bug. The Pan RP91 is rated very well on audioreview.com and has most features but also uses the genesis chipset which is said to have inferior playback performance compared to machines, such as the Pan RP82 and Denon 1600 using the sage / faroudja chipsets. The RP82 lacks many features found on the 91 but should exhibit fewer artifacts during playback. Opinion of the Denon 1600 seeeed to be good but not glorious.

I could not find an idea player for me in the less than $500 range. I have decided to buy either the pan rp56 ($129 on ebay) or the pan rp82 for about $220. Both of these lack features but have solid playback and will make a good back-up player once something better hits the market. If DVD-A playback is a major concern and you love high build quailty, consider the Toshiba sd9200. It is beautifully built and has super DVD-A playback. For $400 on ebay it is a sweet machine. Buy both it and the Pan56 for less than $550 and you can have both great video and great audio.
