HK DVD 5 problems

My Harman Kardon DVD 5 seems to be on permanent STANDBY mode and it won't budge. I can see the light when I power it on, but after that it refuses to power fully on. I've spoken to HK tech and he tried to reset it, but that didn't work either. This unit is out of warranty and I am reluctant to spend a lot of money fixing this thing. Does anyone here know of this particular problem? Is there an easy fix?
