Re: Marantz DV-8300, any reviews or observations yet

My local Marantz dealer demoed one for me. I did not directly compare it to anything else, but in absolute terms, I thought the sound was pretty good through some decent quality speakers--they were either Paradigm or B&W's in the $1000-2000/pair range. I listened to Lucky Man by ELP on DVD-A, and it sounded quite good. I also listened to a newer recording by a different artist on multichannel SACD, and it sounded even better, but it could have just been the difference in the original recordings themselves.

As far as video, the picture was fine but did not necessarily blow me away. With material I am more familiar with, I'm sure it would outperform my little Pioneer DV-414 DVD player on my Sony digital TV with the Marantz's progressive scan. My opinion is that this player likely offers a good blend of performance and value.
