After many phone calls here is what I found out. Only HBO and Showtimeâ€™s main channel are 5.1 capable. The other HBO and Showtime channels like HBO plus, HBO family, Showtime extreme, etc.. are not able to broadcast 5.1, only pro-logic. So If you have cable TV and want Dolby Digital 5.1 you can only get it on the above mentioned two channels
Another bit of disappointing news, ALL indemand pay-per-view, is NOT 5.1 capable. Due to bandwidth limitations, they can only offer Dolby pro-logic, NO 5.1 is broadcast from them. They said that in order to offer 30 some channels of pay-per-view they do not have the room to fit in the 5.1 information, so its more play times, rather that Dolby digital, that they are interested in.
