Satellite Receivers with Optical Output

I contracted with one of the satellite providers to receive my TV signals. Through the promotional offering used to attract customers, I was provided with a bare bones receiver in that it does not offer a 5.1 surround sound signal through an optical output. I am about to upgrade with the blessing of the satellite provider. I need to know if anyone out there has gone through the process. Which receivers should be considered? How much should they cost? Etc.,etc. I am not interested in HDTV at this time because there is so little of it offered in my location and my CRT TV receiver is analog.
I know there are a few brands out there. Which do you feel are the best in terms of both sound and picture reception.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
