Theater Masters or a used Marantz ...

I like the Theater Masters SL9000 or MX500. Nice and strong IR signal easy to program. I had a Marantz RC-2000 mk.i before. It wasn't bad, but it was pretty heavy with the 4 AA batteries (theater masters use AAA) and it chewed thru battereis a lot, since i probably used the backlighting more than i should. you can pick up the marantz for about $75 used on audiogon. I wouldn't pay more for a new one, IMHP (upwards of $150). Check shopping.yahoo.com for pricing on the theater masters.

Various reviews can be found on the net.
