I can't be much help, since I haven't used a HTPC with my PJ. However, I'm not a fan of the HTPC concept because it breaks away from the keep-it-simple school of thought. I simply don't want to mess around with a computer just to watch a film!

While I'm just going from a DVD player to the PJ right now, I'd like to implement a nice scaler at some point. (I blew the budget on the PJ alone.) A HTPC probably wouldn't do any better but I suspect it would be cheaper. That's the main advantage of HTPC as far as I can tell.
