Re: Good/reliable DVD player under $250 ??

The thread below has some useful information. "dmunsil" and "sspears" were behind the very informative progressive dvd shootout in secrets of home theater and hi-fi.

For an extra $20-30 the Panasonic RP82 is a worthwhile improvement on the RP62. The Faroudja chip will make a difference if you are sending your tv a progressive signal. You may or may not care about some of the other benefits of the RP82 . . . e.g. chroma-bug free.

Crutchfield.com has the RP82 for $229, and you can probably find a better price if you search around.

Disclaimer: I have the Sony 999es on order. May try to A/B it against a RP82 for comparison. Am using an RP62 as a temporary dvd player. 999 has better audio, but opinions on the video differ: technically the RP82 should be better (FLI chip, no chroma bug), but a number of people have reported a preference for the 999 . . .
