Frank- I'm not familiar with Sony products except to say they suffer from chroma bug artifacts (at least they did when I was shopping for my DVD player). Currently I am using the Panasonic RP62 progressive scan and I'm very pleased with it. I also have a Panasonic RV80U which is a little older and not progressive scan. Both have performed flawlessly and that is one of the reasons I would recommend them. In addition, feedback on various websites has been universally positive regarding the Panasonic units.
