Will I Need HDTV Receiver?

I will soon be buying a new HD television, and plan to convert from Comcast "basic" cable service to Comcast digital service. Comcast advised me that by converting to digital the signal I will be receiving will enable me to view many of their broadcasts in the HD format. If that is indeed the case, will my new TV automatically provide me a HD picture or will I still need to buy a separate HD receiver in addition to the HD television? As you can tell, I am new at this and am not really sure what I am getting myself into. Therefore, SEND HELP!!!
