Re: 16:9 Mode in 4:3 TV

A 4:3 TV that has the 16:9 mode (such as the Sony Wega's) use magnetic compression to 'squeeze' the image to letterbox (16:9) aspect ratio, therefore utilizing all of the TV's scan lines to make up the image, instead of wasting some to the top and bottom black bars. The picture quality is extremely good. The best thing next to true HD.
