My preference for a package in this price range would be:Paradigm Cinema system (two pair of satellites, center channel and powered subwoofer), priced at about $700.00
Inexpensive A/V receiver like the Pioneer VSXD-811S for about $300.00.
This system will be fine in a small to medium size room, but you may need to spend more if you want acceptable performance in a larger room.
