Philips 963SA or Marantz DV-12S1

Does anyone have any experience, especially in regard to video quality comparison between the Marantz DV-12S1 and the Philips 963sa?
My DVD player died, so I'm in the market for a good progressive DVD player, and the prices on used/clearance Marantz "12S1 reference" models is below $1k if you look around hard enough. While this is still $500 or more above the Philips, I already have a Marantz system and the DV-12S1 is built like a tank. And being Marantz's "reference" series, it does have a lot going for it according to the one or two reviews I was able to find online.
However, if the new Philips is a much better video performer, then that premium for the Marantz may not be worth it... if it's negligible, then maybe it is.... since I can't demo either, I dunno.
So, does anyone have any experience and opinions on the video performance, and sonic performance of the Marantz versus the new Philips?
