Home Theatre 101 - Help please

I'm looking at integrating my sterio system with a home theatre system but am not sure how far I want to go. I do not want to compromise the musical performance of my system. The only way I think it can work is with a projector because my speakers are very sensitive to anything between them (Naim NBLs). With this in mind I am probably can't use the centre speaker option.

Can I get good results with:

1. Projector, VCR with only the sterio audio fed into my system.

2. Projector, VCR, Receiver with front speaker through my system and a sub and rear speakers attached.

Are there any options with the centre speaker? Anyone have experience with VCRs and projectors? Are DVDs required? I understand the sterio out on DVDs isn't very good.

I know the above won't take full advantage of the home theatre effects but the signal through my sterio I know would sound amazing.

What options would you recommend?

Thanks!
