Sony SDP E800 Woes...

Hello,

I picked up a broken SDP E800 surround sound processor cheap. There seem to be two problems.

1. It shuts itself off after a few minutes. If it does this once it will only flicker on then off again until you let it sit for some time. I think it's overheating, because if you pull the case off, the problem disappears. Any ideas? I'm not overly concerned about this as I figure I can improve cooling via a couple of strategically placed heatsinks, but opinions are needed.

2. There is no sound coming from the outputs. This one is trickier - and obviously a deal breaker. Regardless of the input (coax, optical, analog) there is no sound coming out. Where to begin? I'm reluctant to take it to a repair shop until I've exhausted all other options.

Can you tell I'm on a budget? Anyway, thanks in advance for any advice.

Stew.
