Direct View HDTV's

What I need advice with is direct view HDTV’s. I am regular reader of Stereophile Guide to Home Theater. And I remember when one of the first direct view HDTV's came out by Sony, that magazine stated that set did not display all the pixels that HDTV broudcasts provide. Their explanation was that with this direct view (versus CRT projection) it could not display them all because they would have to make the pixels so small that it would lead to the entire image presentation being too dim.

They didn’t say this, but the way they explained this it sounded as if this problem would be systemic to all direct view HDTV's. Does anybody know if this is true? Do all direct view HDTV's fail to display the full number of pixels that HDTV's provide?

Please help because I am trying to decide whether to buy a direct view or projection HDTV.
