The Sony's base resolution is 1366x768 P, so everything has to go through some type of conversion. Where the conversion in these HDTV ready sets used to be the weak link, the weak link is no more. In my Sony, the 480i looks really good (obviously not as good as 720P or 1080i). And Yes, I use the wide mode to stretch 480i TV to fill the screen.

The moral to this story is to go look at the set you are interested in, with all of the different inputs. They have made much progress in internal scalers. You may be pleasntly surprised.
