Re: DLP vs. LCD.....New To This, Please Help

To me, the biggest difference is in black level and the related quality of shaddow detail. Both technologies are weak in this area, but DLP is significantly better than transmissive LCD. Take along a DVD with a lot of dark scenes, such as Road to Perdition (sucks as a movie but good for video evaluation purposes)or Dark City. Look to see how much you can actually see in the shaddows. The Samsung sets are so reasonably priced that it's hard to beat. Better rear projection DLPs can be found, such as the SIM set, but they are much more expensive. Another reasonably priced brand (not as cheap as Samsung) with a great picture is Optoma.

I also think most LCD sets have more motion artifacts (objects seem to blur and streak when the move rapidly across the screen). Sony Wega sets also have an odd, magenta cast to the picture. The big plus for the LCD sets is that a very large screen set can be had for quite cheap.
