47" widescreen, HDTV capable which I'm pulling in (OK, six stations' worth) re: my local cable company, gorgeous picture with ISF calibration, fairly thin cabinet, the latest model is right in your sweet spot budget-wise.
Fed by a Panny RP-91 and the aforementioned HDTV cable box, picture is stunningly real and colorful. There are some excellent and quite small surround speakers, so you can experience the full glory that is 5.1 or 6.1 sound (don't try this at home for DVD-A or SACD, though).
