Guys using laptops/pcs for video - some DVDs won't play in my laptop...

I have EvoN1000v Compaq with Toshiba DR-R2312 dvd rom.
The system does not recognize the disk at all. It's not showing up in Windows Explorer either.
I get this pop-up message in the Windows Media player -
The disk in drive D:is not formatted properly. Please check the disk, and reformat if necessary.
However the same DVD played in my friend's Sony laptop.
